Preliminary English Test

PET is at Level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
PET advantage

A B1 Preliminary for Schools qualification shows that a student can:

  • Many universities and government departments officially recognize Cambridge English: PET as an intermediate qualification in English
  • PET is accepted by many employers as a proof of ability to use English for administrative and secretarial jobs. It is also widely accepted for use for work where spoken English is necessary
  • Read simple textbooks and articles in English
  • Write letters and emails on everyday subjects
  • Understand factual information
  • Shows awareness of opinions and mood in spoken and written English

A B1 Preliminary for Schools (PET) qualification shows that a student has mastered the basics of English and has practical skills for everyday use.

Outcome

  • It provides a real-life language skills for learners
  • Accurately and consistently test all four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking
  • PET gives confidence to candidates to move on to higher qualification such as the First Certificate in English(FCE)
